Georgia Supreme Court Term Clerk Program

Since 2018, the Supreme Court of Georgia’s Term Clerk Program allows Georgia’s highest court to invest in the future leaders of the Georgia bar and the state’s appellate practice through an intensive year of assisting the Justices with legal research and writing, drafting and reviewing opinions, preparing for oral arguments, and other important responsibilities. Another significant benefit of the term clerk experience is the mentoring relationship that develops between the term clerk and the Justice. Some of the term clerks are recent graduates from law school, while others have come to the Court after one or more years of work in the legal profession.

How to Apply: The Justices select term clerks through a highly competitive process that includes review of submitted materials and interviews. Typically, term clerk opportunities are announced two years prior to the commencement of the term, which traditionally starts in August. The positions are posted on the Court’s website under “Employment Opportunities” and are also shared with various law schools.

Law School Inquiries: Law school placement offices with questions about the Program should contact Tee Barnes, Clerk/Court Executive. She can be reached by phone at 404-656-3470.
