Atlanta, April 8, 2019 – The Supreme Court of Georgia will hold oral arguments at Mercer University School of Law in Macon this Friday, April 12. Court will be held in the first floor Bell-Jones Courtroom, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Law School is located at 1021 Georgia Avenue, a mile away from Mercer’s main campus.

Each year, the state’s highest court travels outside Atlanta to hear cases for the purpose of making the court’s business and the judicial process more accessible to the public.

During this session, the court will hear appeals in one civil case and one criminal case: In the first, a hospital is appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals ruling that orders a new trial in a lawsuit brought by a man whose wife suffered catastrophic injuries from an undiagnosed ruptured brain aneurysm. In the second, a man convicted of murder is appealing a Bryan County court’s denial of his “extraordinary motion” requesting a new trial based on what he alleges is newly discovered evidence that the judge and prosecutors may have had improper contact with jurors.

As always, media are welcome. Due to limited capacity, any media planning to attend – print or broadcast – should complete and submit by Wednesday, April 10 the media request form located on the court’s website: www.gasupreme.us. Also, please familiarize yourself beforehand with the court’s Media Rules.
