Atlanta, November 9, 2018 – In honor of the late former Chief Justice P. Harris Hines, Governor Nathan Deal has directed by Executive Order for flags to fly half-staff Tuesday, Nov. 13, at judicial buildings and grounds throughout Georgia, as well as on the State Capitol building and grounds.

Calling Justice Hines “a well-respected and beloved jurist,” the Governor’s order states that it is “fitting and proper to recognize Justice Hines’ service to the United States of America and the State of Georgia” by lowering the flags on the day of his interment.

“We thank the Governor for recognizing a great jurist and a great man through this statewide tribute,” Chief Justice Harold D. Melton said in a statement.

Former Chief Justice Hines died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018, in a car accident.
