Atlanta, August 5, 2019 – The Supreme Court of Georgia will present a special award Tuesday, August 6, 2019, to Edward D. Tolley, honoring the former chairman of the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) for his “wise and steady” leadership at a critical time in the Commission’s history.

On behalf of the Court, Chief Justice Harold D. Melton will present to Mr. Tolley, a prominent Georgia attorney, a resolution designating him as “Amicus Curiae,” which is Latin for “friend of the court.”

Presiding Justice David E. Nahmias will read aloud the award at the beginning of the August 6 oral arguments, thanking Mr. Tolley for “his lifetime of dedicated and distinguished service to this State, our legal community, and our judiciary.” The JQC is the constitutional body that educates Georgia judges about their ethical duties and conducts investigations and hearings regarding any judges’ misconduct. Mr. Tolley recently stepped down when his term ended on June 30 after leading the commission for three years.
