9/14/18 – CHIEF JUSTICE MELTON ON APPOINTMENT OF NEW JUSTICE TO SUPREME COURT

Atlanta, Sept. 14, 2018 – In response to Governor Deal’s appointment today of Judge Charles “Charlie” Bethel to the Supreme Court of Georgia, Chief Justice Harold D. Melton issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Supreme Court of Georgia, I congratulate Judge Bethel on his appointment to our Court. Charlie is a dedicated public servant and an exceptional jurist. He will make a wonderful addition to this Court.”

Judge Bethel has served on the Georgia Court of Appeals, the state’s intermediate appellate court, since his appointment by Governor Deal on Jan. 1, 2017. His appointment to the state’s highest court will fill the vacancy left by former Chief Justice P. Harris Hines who retired Aug. 31.
