Atlanta, October 28, 2024 – The Supreme Court of Georgia will hold its first day of November oral arguments at the Georgia State University College of Law on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
It is tradition for the Court to hold special sessions at locations, including law schools, around the state to make the Court’s business and the judicial process more accessible to the public. The last time the Court convened at Georgia State was in January 2016, just a few months after the ribbon-cutting for the law school’s new building.
“My colleagues and I look forward to hearing oral arguments at Georgia State’s College of Law,” said Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs. “We hope that this on-campus session will allow citizens, and in particular law students, to observe our Court in action and better understand the role of the judiciary in our government.”
During this special session, the Court will hear appeals in two, separate criminal cases—Blalock v. The State, S24A1303, and Lewis v. The State., S25A0023. Oral arguments will begin at 10 a.m. Eastern, following a brief attorney admission ceremony. The Court’s November oral argument schedule includes a separate, subsequent day of proceedings in its courtroom inside the Nathan Deal Judicial Center in downtown Atlanta on Nov. 6.
“Hosting the Georgia Supreme Court at the College of Law is an incredible opportunity for our students to witness the workings of a court, observe expert attorneys present their cases and field questions from the Justices, and analyze the evolution from the written word to oral arguments,” Interim Dean Courtney Anderson said. “We are grateful to the Supreme Court for providing this immersive experience on our campus.”
The event will be live-streamed on the Court’s website at gasupreme.us.
Any media—print, digital, or broadcast—should submit a request form no later than Friday, Nov. 1. Any media or public inquiries about the Court or its proceedings may be directed to Public Information Officer Kathleen Joyner at joynerk@gasupreme.us.
