Atlanta, May 12, 2022 – The portrait of the Honorable P. Harris Hines, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia, will be presented in a special ceremony on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the Supreme Court courtroom.

The former Chief Justice retired from the Court in August 2018 after more than 50 years of practicing law and serving as a judge in Georgia. He had been appointed to the Supreme Court bench in 1995 by then Gov. Zell Miller. Prior to his appointment, he served as a Superior Court judge and a State Court judge in the Cobb Judicial Circuit.

Former Chief Justice Hines passed away in November 2018. His widow, Helen Hines, and two children, Mary Margaret Hines Doyle and James Harris “Hap” Hines, will unveil his portrait during the ceremony on May 19.

At a special session, current Chief Justice David E. Nahmias will formally accept the portrait on behalf of the Court. The portrait was painted by artist Suzanne Royal of Rome, Ga.
