Atlanta, Feb. 28, 2023 – Mercer University School of Law has awarded Supreme Court Clerk and Court Executive Therese “Tee” Barnes with its Outstanding Alumna Award, bestowed on behalf of the law school alumni association.

The award is presented annually to a past graduate of the law school who has served the profession of law in an outstanding manner and whose career has fostered the law school’s ideals of service to humanity and dedication. Past recipients include former Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, former Georgia Secretary of State and current Dean of Mercer School of Law Cathy Cox, and the late Griffin B. Bell, former U.S. Attorney General and Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge.

Ms. Barnes graduated from Mercer University School of Law in 1981. After graduation, she practiced in civil business litigation and then served as a law clerk for the Hon. Harold Banke at the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the state’s intermediate appellate court, and later served as a law clerk for former Chief Justices Carol W. Hunstein and Harold D. Melton. In 2006, Ms. Barnes was appointed by the Supreme Court to her current role.
