Atlanta, Jan. 31, 2018 – Superior Court Judge John Flythe of the Augusta Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Nels S. D. Peterson in the appeal of Campaign for Accountability v. Consumer Credit Research Foundation (S17G1676) and Board of Regents v. Consumer Credit Research Foundation (S17G1677). The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in the case on Feb. 5, 2018 during its 10:00 A.M. session. In this case, the Board of Regents is appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision prohibiting it from providing information to a private organization that the Board is willing to release. In addition to hearing arguments, Judge Flythe will participate in the Court’s decision.

Judge Flythe, 44, was elected to the Superior Court and began his term on Jan. 1, 2017. The Augusta Judicial Circuit includes Richmond, Columbia, and Burke counties. Prior to his election to the Superior Court, Judge Flythe was a State Court Judge in Richmond County after his appointment in 2010 by then Gov. Sonny Perdue. He began his legal career in 1999, as an Assistant District Attorney in the Augusta Judicial Circuit, and entered into private practice in 2002. While in private practice, he was a Municipal Court Judge in Grovetown, GA from 2007 until 2010.

Judge Flythe graduated from the Richmond Academy. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.
