Atlanta, Jan. 18, 2018 – Superior Court Judge Trenton Brown, III of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Michael P. Boggs in the appeal of Georgia Power Company v. Cazier et al. (S17G0706). The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in the case on Jan. 22 during its 10:00 A.M. session. In this case, Georgia Power is appealing a ruling by the state Court of Appeals that allows a lawsuit brought by some of the utility’s customers to go forward against it. In addition to hearing arguments, Judge Brown will participate in the Court’s decision.

Judge Brown, 44, was appointed to the Superior Court of the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit by Gov. Nathan Deal in 2012 and was re-elected to a four-year term in 2014. The Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit includes eight counties: Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jasper, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Wilkinson. Judge Brown served as a State Court Judge of Putnam County from 2008-2012.

Judge Brown received a degree in economics from the University of Georgia in 1995. He obtained his law degree from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 1999.

Judge Brown is a member of the recently established Court Reform Council and one of three judges serving on the Judicial Retirement System of Georgia Board of Trustees. He is an Eagle Scout and holds membership in the Rotary Club of Greene & Putnam counties. He was part of the Leadership Putnam Class of 2002 and Leadership Georgia Class of 2014.

Judge Brown and his wife Jill, a schoolteacher, have two children.
