Atlanta, GA, Nov. 5, 2015 – Presiding Justice P. Harris Hines of the Supreme Court of Georgia
is being honored with a “Big Voice for Children Award” for his commitment to justice for youth
and his leadership of the Supreme Court Committee on Justice for Children. The award
ceremony hosted by Voices for Georgia’s Children, an advocacy group, will take place
tomorrow night, Nov. 6, at the InterContinental Buckhead Hotel.

Justice Hines was appointed to the Supreme Court of Georgia on July 26, 1995. Prior to that, he
served for 20 years as a judge in Cobb County on both the State Court and Superior Court. He
began working to improve the legal process for children in juvenile courts in 2001, when he was
appointed to chair the Committee on Justice for Children, which was established by the Supreme
Court. Through its Cold Case Project, the Committee has helped more than 300 children who
were “stuck in foster care” find permanent families.

Justice Hines has worked tirelessly to improve the professional capabilities of judges and
lawyers who work with children by providing a broad range of educational opportunities that
include scholarships to national conferences, seminars, live-streaming of legal classes and other
professional training. As a result of the Committee’s work, 45 attorneys in Georgia have now
been certified by the American Bar Association as Child Welfare Legal Specialists. Justice Hines
has remained steadfast in his commitment to making improvements for the children and families
in our court system. He rarely says “no” to a request to share his expertise or lend his support.
