Atlanta, October 3, 2018 – Superior Court Judge M. Cindy Morris of the Conasauga Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Sarah H. Warren in the appeal of In the Interest of H.G.D. et al, children (S18G0199). The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in the case on Oct. 9, 2018 during its 2:00 P.M. session. In this case, grandparents of a young boy and girl are appealing a lower court’s denial of their motion asking the court to allow them to present evidence so they can regain custody of their grandchildren. In addition to hearing arguments, Judge Morris will participate in the Court’s decision.

Judge Morris, 60, was appointed to the Superior Court of the Conasauga Judicial Circuit by then-Gov. Roy Barnes. The Conasauga Judicial Circuit includes the counties of Murray and Whitfield. Before her public service, Judge Morris was in private practice in Dalton, GA.

Judge Morris grew up in Smyrna, GA and obtained her bachelor’s degree from Mercer University in 1980. She graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1984.

In 2014, Judge Morris implemented and presided over one of the first Domestic Violence Accountability Courts in Georgia. She served on the Georgia Commission on Court Interpreters for six years, the Board of Visitors at Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University, the Board of Trustees at the Dalton-Whitfield County Library and the Dalton State College Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. She currently serves on the Board of Court Reporting, the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, and the Board of Trustees of Mercer University.

Judge Morris is an active member of Rockbridge Community Church in Dalton. She enjoys hiking, as well as rock and fossil hunting.
