Atlanta, Sept. 13, 2017 – As of Sunday, Sept. 10, the Supreme Court of Georgia has joined the world of Twitter. The state’s highest court will use Twitter as an additional platform for informing the public about newly published opinions and summaries, press releases, summaries of cases coming up for oral argument, and other news. The Public Information Office will maintain the account.

The state’s highest court issued its first official tweet Sunday, Sept. 10, to inform the public about the Court’s closure Monday and Tuesday due to storm Irma.

“We are officially entering the world of social media, and while I can’t claim I always understand it, I think it is vital that the Court connect with the public,” said Chief Justice P. Harris Hines. “People often look to Twitter to keep up with the latest breaking news, and this is a step toward making the state’s highest court more accessible and transparent.”
