Atlanta, February 2, 2017 – Superior Court Judge William Travis Sakrison of the Coweta
Judicial Circuit has been designated to serve in place of Justice Michael P. Boggs in the appeal
of York v. RES-GA LJY, LLC (S16G1245). The Supreme Court of Georgia will hear arguments in
the case on Monday, February 6, 2017 during its 10:00 A.M. session. In this complex property
law case, two men are appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision in a lawsuit against them
for money owed on several commercial property guaranties. In addition to hearing arguments,
Judge Sakrison will participate in the Court’s decision.

Judge Sakrison, 46, was appointed to the Superior Court on February 6, 2015 by Gov.
Nathan Deal. He was elected without opposition in 2016. The Coweta Judicial Circuit includes
Coweta, Carroll, Troup, Meriwether and Heard counties.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Sakrison was the executive director of the Georgia Public
Defender Standards Council. He has previously served as deputy chief assistant district attorney
in DeKalb County, chief senior assistant district attorney in Fulton County, attorney for the
Governor’s Office of the Consumer’s Insurance Advocate of Georgia and senior staff attorney for
Georgia Court of Appeals Judge John J. Ellington.

(Designated judges are appointed when a justice must recuse himself or herself from a
particular case. The Supreme Court of Georgia maintains a list of judges from around the state
and when the need arises, the Court appoints the next judge on the list.)
